Public Works Full-Time Employee Position

The Freeport Public Works Department has an opening for a full-time employee position. 

Qualified candidates MUST have experience with construction work, snow removal and related motorized equipment. Municipal experience a plus. A Maine Class B CDL is required.  Class A CDL is preferred.  The Town offers a competitive pay and benefit package based on qualifications and experience. 

Successful candidate must pass a pre-employment physical, which includes an alcohol and drug screening test.

PUBLIC WORKS EMPLOYEE - TEMPORARY                             

Public works is seeking applications for a temporary employee for a minimum of 40 hours a week.  This position includes labor, running of small equipment, parking lot and sidewalk snow removal.  A current Maine Driver's license with a clean background is required.  Experience in snow plowing operations desirable and having a mechanical background a plus.  Pay based on qualification.

FULL TIME POLICE OFFICER

Freeport is a coastal community of about 8000 residents with a strong retail base, including L.L. Bean.  The police department includes 15 full time officers, full time harbor master/marine patrol, 2 part time officers, clerical staff, and seasonal parking enforcement personnel. 

REQUIREMENTS: 

Applicants must be at least 21 years of age and have no adverse driving record.  Applicants must hold a valid Maine drivers license at the time of employment. 

The minimum requirement for the position is the successful completion of all phases of the Maine Law Enforcement Pre-Service Training Program.

All applicants will be required to pass a physical agility test (MCJA Standards). 

Candidates having an Associate’s Degree or a combination of relevant training and experience will have an advantage.  Preference may be given to graduates of the MCJA Basic Law Enforcement Training Program. 

An extensive background investigation, including psychological, polygraph, and medical examinations will be part of the process.

The department offers a competitive salary and benefit package for full time employment.  Experience, education, and training factor into the wage considerations for officers.

Bus Traffic Direction, part-time
The Freeport Police Department is seeking part time personnel for Bus Traffic Direction. The job requires walking, an ability to work with the public, and working in all types of weather. Bus Traffic Direction is needed on school days for one hour starting at 2:30 pm. This is a great job for a Freeport resident who is a retiree or parent of a school aged child. Transfer Station Attendant- backup position
The Town of Freeport has an opening for a back-up Transfer Station Attendant. Job involves assisting the public with their trash/recyclable material and sorting this material. Manual labor, frequent lifting and bending are all part of the job. No experience is necessary. Skid steer/forklift experience and computer experience a plus. Must be at least 18 years old and have a valid Maine Drivers License. High School diploma or equivalent required.

This position is not benefit eligible. Pay is $12 per hour.
Ideal candidate will:

  • Want to work in a fast paced, team environment
  • Be able to work outdoors in all types of weather (20% inside/80% outside)
  • Have interpersonal skills relating to good customer service
  • Be able to lift up to 75 pounds and stand for an 8 hour shift
  • Have a positive attitude
