PUBLIC WORKS - EQUIPMENT OPERATORS

The Freeport Public Works Department has openings for full time Public Works employees: Preferred candidates will have experience with the operation of light trucks and small construction-related motorized equipment. Experience in snow plowing operations is a plus. Applicants must have a valid Maine CDL driver's license.  Applicants with interest in becoming a CDL driver are encouraged to apply.

The Town offers a competitive pay and benefits package based on qualifications and experience. Our work schedule is Monday thru Thursday from 6:00 am to 4:30 pm. Must be available for additional hours during wintertime operations.

The successful candidate must pass a pre-employment physical, which includes an alcohol and drug screening test. BUILDING AND GROUNDS MAINTENANCE CUSTODIAN

The Town of Freeport is seeking applicants for a Building Maintenance Custodian to join our crew who is responsible for the upkeep and safety of all municipal buildings.  This full-time year-round position will be responsible for completing a full range of custodial and maintenance activities. Indoor duties include but are not limited to mopping, vacuuming, emptying trash, setting up and taking down tables and chairs for meetings, and general cleaning activities of municipal buildings.  Outdoor duties may include mowing, raking, weed whacking, trash pick-up, landscaping, painting, snow removal and other outdoor maintenance activities.  Successful applicant must be able to perform heavy physical labor for extended hours in all weather conditions.  Must possess a current Maine driver’s license to travel to different municipal buildings as the position requires.

This position is eligible for all benefits: health, dental, vacation, etc. Custodial experience highly preferred especially commercial or municipal custodial experience. Application can be found below.

Firefighter/Paramedic/Advanced EMT’s - Deadline extended

The Town of Freeport is currently seeking applications for the position(s) of full-time Firefighter/Paramedic. Advanced EMT’s who are currently enrolled in paramedic school are encouraged to apply.  This is a skilled Firefighting and EMS position consisting of Paramedic responsibilities, both emergency and non-emergency, as well combating, extinguishing, and preventing fires.  Work involves responding to a wide range of fire suppression and medical emergencies to ensure the stability and safety of our community. 

Shift starts at 0700 hours and is 24 hours on, 24 hours off, 24 hours on, 5 days off for an average work week of 42 hours.  Weekends, holidays, training and potential over time will be expected. 
Position Requirements:
High School Diploma or equivalent; Associate degree Fire or EMS related preferred.
Must possess and maintain a valid State of Maine Class C operator's license.
Maine EMT Paramedic license desired. 
Candidates with AEMT license, who intend to obtain a Paramedic qualification within a reasonable period are encouraged to apply.
State of Maine Firefighter I required, Firefighter II certification desired.
Must be SCBA certified. 
Must be able to work rotating 24-hour shifts; including evenings, nights and weekends
Must successfully complete a comprehensive background check and a post-offer physical exam.

Transfer Station Attendant – Backup Saturday Position 9:00 – 4:00.

The Town of Freeport has an opening for a backup Saturday position at the Transfer Station.  The job involves providing direction to the public on proper waste disposal and recycling.  No experience is necessary.  Must be at least 18 years old.  High School diploma or equivalent required.

This position is not benefit eligible.

The ideal candidate will:

Have a positive attitude with excellent customer service skills
Be able to work outdoors, standing in all types of weather (20% inside 80% outside)
Comfortable using a computer and cash register
Want to work in a fast paced, team environment

Police Officer

Freeport is a coastal community of about 9000 residents with a strong retail base, including L.L. Bean. The police department includes 15 full time officers, full time Marine Patrol, 2 part time officers, clerical staff, and seasonal parking enforcement personnel.

REQUIREMENTS:

The minimum requirement for the position is the successful completion of all phases of the Maine Law Enforcement Pre-Service Training Program. 

All applicants will be required to pass a physical agility test (MCJA Standards). Candidates having an Associate’s Degree or a combination of relevant training and experience will have an advantage. Preference may be given to graduates of the MCJA  Basic Law Enforcement Training Program.

An extensive background investigation, including psychological, polygraph, and medical examinations will be part of the process.
