Police Officer Job Announcement
The Town of Freeport is accepting applications for opening(s) for the position of police officer. Candidates should be highly motivated, and people orientated.
Preference will be given to MCJA certified officers and a sign on bonus of up to $15,000 is offered. Lateral applications must be graduates of the Maine Criminal Justice Academy or hold similar certification from an out of state basic police training program. A lateral entry will enter the pay scale based on their current years of previous service. Top out hourly rate for patrolman is $36.28/hour.
All applicants must be at least 21 years of age, at least a high school graduate, hold a valid driver’s license, no criminal record, and no serious motor vehicle record.
Successful candidates may be required to pass an extensive background investigation, polygraph testing, psychological exam, physical exam, and oral board(s)
The Town of Freeport offers a comprehensive benefit package including 25-year 2/3 Maine State Retirement plan (PLD Special 3C) and competitive salaries. In lieu of MePers, ICMA 401 plan is offered. The town also offers a strong health insurance plan (point of service C from MMEHT) for the employee and their family with the town paying 80% of the premiums.
In addition to salary and insurance, the town offers extra pay for special duties within the department, EMT certification, specialized training, paid details, fitness and education stipends. Annual fitness stipends range between $400 and $900 depending on level completed.
The town will outfit you will all uniforms and equipment needed to perform the job. In addition to yearly allotments of uniforms, officers are paid $60 a month for cleaning and $200 a year for any extra police equipment.
