At its 11/16/25 meeting, Freeport Town Council approved the following options based on staff recommendations for the Town Manager to work with staff, stakeholders, and consultants to implement VCI Demonstration Project options for Summer 2026.
School/Elm & Main: All-Way Stop at School/Elm & Main and adjustment to the timing of the Mallet Drive traffic light.
To include the installation of two new stops signs for north and southbound traffic on Main Street and the removal of the right hand turn lanes on School Street and Main Street, combined with an adjustment to the Mallet Drive traffic light to give preference to northbound traffic turning left onto Mallet Drive.
Main & Bow: No more physical trials; proceed to photo rendering of Main & Bow, plus landscape architect sketches of School/Elm & Main, and other critical points along the Village Corridor.
To include high-resolution, lifelike photo rendering of Bow & Main intersection following potential permanent design changes, plus to-scale landscape architect sketches of School/Elm & Main and other key points along the Village Corridor. This option was unanimously endorsed by the VCI Leadership Team and Complete Streets Committee in November 2025.
