Silver Bullet Recycling

Important Recycling Update for Freeport Residents

The Silver Bullet recycling container on Hunter Road (near the Public Works building) has been removed and is no longer available.

This decision wasn’t made lightly. After reviewing financial and environmental impacts, the Town Council voted to remove this container. If you’d like to learn more, you can watch the discussion from the November 18th Town Council meeting at our YouTube link below, which includes presentations from the Freeport Sustainability Advisory Board and former ecomaine Board representative Rod Regier.
The Silver Bullet container on West Street (at the Public Safety building) will remain for now.
To keep this option available, please help us by:
- Flattening cardboard boxes before recycling
- Not leaving items outside the container
- Only recycling approved materials
- Viewing the full list of acceptable items at ecomaine’s Recyclopedia

For the best recycling experience, we encourage you to use the Transfer Station compactor at 100 Hedgehog Mountain Road, open Wednesday–Saturday, 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM. This method reduces transportation costs and environmental impact by compacting materials before they’re sent to Portland—saving money for the Town and taxpayers.

Thank you for helping Freeport stay clean, green, and sustainable!
