How can I obtain a shellfish license?

Commercial Shellfish Licenses are available only to those who have previously held a commercial license and have successfully completed required conservation work. nNew license lotteries are held when new licenses become available. The cost is $230 for residents, $430 for non-residents, $55 for student residents, and $80 for student non-residents.

Recreational Shellfish licenses are also available. They are effective July 1 through June 30. The license allows the harvest of one peck of clams per day for personal use only. Recreational digging is allowed in Wolfe Neck State Park without a license. The cost is $16 for residents and $27 for non-residents. Non-resident licenses are limited to 20, and are sold on a first-come, first-served basis beginning the first business day in June.
