How is the Regional School Unit (RSU) #5 budget set?

The annual operating budget for Regional School Unit (RSU) #5 is proposed by the Superintendent of Schools and approved by the RSU #5 Board of Directors. The public portion of the Board of Directors' budget process usually occurs in the late winter/early spring of each year. 

After the budget is approved by the RSU Board of Directors, it is considered at the Annual Budget Meeting, typically in May each year. Any registered voter of Freeport, Durham, or Pownal may attend and participate in the annual budget meeting.

The final budget, as approved by the Annual Budget Meeting, is then put before the voters of all three member towns for a validation vote, typically in June of each year.
