CURRENT OPEN POSITIONS

The Town of Freeport is accepting applications for the position of Town Manager.

The current Town Manager is retiring after serving 30 years in the position. Freeport, located 20 minutes north of Portland on the shores of Casco Bay in southern Maine; is a destination outlet shopping center anchored by L.L.Bean’s flagship store. Freeport is a tourism center with many businesses and recreational opportunities and has a small town high quality of life atmosphere for its residents. It has a population of 7991; $9.3 million municipal budget and 71 full-time employees.

Freeport operates under a, Council-Manager form of government with a 7 member Council; 3 elected at-large and 4 elected by district and serving 3 year staggered terms.
The Council is seeking candidates with a minimum of 5 years of demonstrated municipal management experience as a Manager or similar related position. Knowledge and proven experience in areas of economic development, finance, budgeting, strategic and long-term planning, labor relations/contract negotiating and policy management are desired. Individual must be a visionary with demonstrated leadership, organizational and negotiating skills; excellent written and oral communicator with the ability to inspire and empower staff and be enthusiastic to the needs of the community. Individual must have the ability to be decisive when necessary and also find a balance between promoting commercial development and preserving the residential and rural character of the community. Leadership with integrity, honesty, openness and humor combined with creative problem solving will be essential. The successful candidate will be required to live in Freeport and become an active member of the community.
Applicants will possess a Bachelor’s degree in Public or Business Administration or a closely related field with a Master’s degree preferred. Salary will be determined based on experience and qualifications.
