The Town of Freeport Appointments Committee is looking to fill vacancies on the Shellfish Commission, Cable Committee and the District 4 Representative for the Traffic & Parking Committee:
The Shellfish Commission administers the Freeport Shellfish Conservation Program for the Town. Duties include maintaining current information on shellfish resources, managing the number of shellfish digging licenses, recommending conservation closures and openings with area biologists, recommending long-term management goals, identifying conservation projects for renewal of commercial licenses, and identifying and addressing water quality issues. The Shellfish Commission typically meets on the second Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at the Freeport Community Center.
The Traffic and Parking Commit tee shall advise the Town Council on
traffic and parking issues such as, but not limited to, the following and
make recommendations for short and long-term improvements:
• Traffic circulation
• On and of f-street parking
• Pedestrian flow, including crosswalks
• General safety issues
• Funding sources for public improvements
• Alternative Transportation Lanes
The Traffic and Parking Committee shall provide advice, when
requested, for other Boards and Commissions such as the Planning
Board, Project Review Board, Coastal Waters Commission, etc.
Develop and gather technical information through consultants, as
needed and committee staff .
Recommend ordinance revision and advise on proposed ordinance
Provide for public comment from citizens with concerns about issues
related to traffic and parking.
Decide on public peddler locations.
Act in any capacity required by specific Town ordinances.
Conduct special projects related to traffic and parking issues.
The major focus of the Committee efforts is on the Village and the
Route One corridor, but it will provide advice and recommendations,
as needed, about traffic and parking issues in other sect ions of
